RBS RugbyForce is an England wide community volunteer programme that supports local rugby clubs in building for their future.

In partnership with the RFU, RBS RugbyForce helps clubs at the grassroots of the game to improve their facilities and provides guidance and tools to make their club a more sustainable business.

Each club that registers for RBS RugbyForce will receive a support package that includes:

  • online guidance and tools to help them coordinate their RBS RugbyForce Weekend – an opportunity for clubs to coordinate a community-wide effort to give their facilities a ‘make-over’
  • a rugby club education module that provides practical tips to help them become more sustainable and build upon the work conducted during their RBS RugbyForce Weekend

There are also five enhanced support packs available to fund major improvement projects:

  • one club will receive £5,000 of support as well as a visit from RBS RugbyForce Ambassador Jason Leonard and a member of the current England squad to led a hand
  • four clubs will receive £1,250 of support

For a chance to receive one of the enhanced support packs you must register before Friday 23rd March 2012.

The first 25 clubs to register for RBS RugbyForce will also each receive £250, 50 RBS RugbyForce t-shirts, an event banner and commemorative plaque to support their weekend.

Last year more than 230 RFU affiliated clubs registered for RBS RugbyForce and conducted work ranging from giving their clubhouse a fresh coat of paint to building new toilet facilities.

Previous Club makeovers

Changing rooms, club bars and pitches have all had a make-over across the last couple of years with the support of current and former players.

Wortley RFC

 Previous makeovers - Wortley

England’s Tom Palmer joined a team of volunteers who grabbed their paint brushes and took a trip to Yorkshire club Wortley RFC to assist them with their RBS RugbyForce Weekend. The heavy rain did not dampen spirits as over 100 members came to the club to assist them with a busy weekend of renovation work including installing electricity into the club house and repairing the access road into the club. The toilets which had been subject to vandalism were also repaired and the changing rooms were painted and plastered.

Since RBS RugbyForce Weekend, the club has reaped the rewards from the weekend’s work. On a Sunday, Mum’s now have no issue driving their children into the club, which was previously a real struggle with the poor access route in. The renovated changing rooms and toilets have attracted more members and pleasingly the vandals have stayed away. The installation of electricity in the club house has increased revenue possibilities and importantly meant that members can now grab a cup of tea whilst watching the teams play!

Keighley RFC

Previous makeovers - Keighley

In 2010, Keighley RFC from Yorkshire renovated their ground, car parking provision and enabled better access for ambulances to get pitch side.

Rugby World Cup Winners Jason Leonard and Neil Back alongside England’s Hendre Fourie joined the large number of volunteers who gave up their time to help with the work. Keighley Chairman, David Mortimer was delighted with the award, “The RBS RugbyForce award is a marvellous boost for the club and one that has come at precisely the right time."

The work conducted helped boost attendances, increase club members and even helped inspire a successful season on the pitch.

Frampton Cotterell RFC

Previous makeovers - Frampton

Frampton Cotterell RFC, based near Bristol, was aided by a large group of volunteers that included Paul Sackey. The England international proved he was more than able with a paint brush and helped a renovation programme, which focused on the changing facilities and bar area.

After a lot of hard work across the Weekend, club member Andy Pullen was delighted with the results, “We now have a bar and changing rooms that we can be proud of. The Weekend has brought everyone closer together and the improvements have given everyone associated to the club a lift.”
